I had an amazing birth experience and would love to share it with you all.

Bec and Woody

Our little bundle Meila Scarlett has decided to join us on the outside.

After researching we decided we needed a doula to help us on our journey this time around, and we found the beautiful Nadja! I had felt contractions from 1am but since I had been having strong Braxton Hicks throughout my pregnancy I decided to just wait and see how things would pan out. I decided at 4am I should let Woody know in case things progressed quickly. By 7am I decided we should contact Nadja to let her know this was definitely it. I didn’t let anybody else know I was in labour.  I turned off my phone and got Woody to remove all clocks from my sight, I had gentle music playing and continued to do laps of my home to keep the labour progressing. By 10am Nadja came over to my house as the contractions were becoming more frequent and rhythmic.

I planned to labour for as long as possible at home so I felt comfortable. By 2pm we were at the hospital after an uncomfortable drive where I just kept my eyes closed the whole way so I could focus on my labour and breathing. I made a conscious effort to express my feelings to both Nadja and Woody as I was concerned this birth would be similar to my first; by doing so I know they were there to help me through these emotions; Nadja was able to treat me with homeopathics during these times.

After 3 hours of being at the hospital using the birthing ball and hot showers I was beginning to feel like I couldn’t “do it” if I hadn’t had such strong support to push me through these feelings I’m sure I wouldn’t have been able to do things the way I wanted. It was around this time I decided I wanted to hop into the bath.  The feeling of relief I got as I lowered into the warmth was amazing! After being in the bath for an hour riding the waves things really started to happen. My eyes were shut and I was unaware of movement in the room.  Woody had moved from kneeling in front of me. My waters broke and 10 pushes later (6pm) Woody was pushing my baby girl through my legs into my arms. We snuggled in the bath in the candle light. I’m sure the bliss was written all over my face! We delayed the cord clamping and I also kept my placenta for encapsulation.

Natalie from Placenta Vitality picked it up later that night and returned the final product back to us 2 days later.  I feel if I hadn’t had this (as well as the birth I had planned) my recovery wouldn’t be so quick.  I had so much energy and felt amazing dealing with my new bundle and my beautiful 2½  year old son. I couldn’t have asked for an experience more different from the first time around. I’m sure this is due to all the education and help I sought prior to labour. Thank you so much for helping me on my journey. xx
